My work consists of lively and expressive watercolours, acrylics, oil paintings, prints and wood engravings. I have worked on birds and Northumberland landscape, while living there./nI have loved painting for as long as I can remember and continue to delight in the excitement of direct observation and the visual world. I work in a fairly loose style to capture the essential liveliness of the subject, whether portrait, landscape or still life./nI have retained my interest in the skills and techniques of drawing, paint, graphics and communications from my Fine Art degree course at Reading University./nI worked first as a typographic designer at Jonathan Cape, Her Majestys Stationery Office, Bodley Head, Thomas Nelson, and Longman Book publishers in London, then later lectured in the Graphic Design Department at Stafford College./nSince then, I have been making paintings and prints and exhibited widely in Staffordshire, Birmingham, London, and Italy. Work has also been in Staffordshire Society of Artists exhibitions, The Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, Stafford Art Group, Stafford Shire Hall, Ancient High House, The Potteries Museum, Keele University, The Society of Women Artists at the Mall Gallery and The Society of Wood Engravers, selling both here and abroad. I had a painting accepted for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2009./nI have now moved to Derbyshire, but still visit when I can, continuing the link to my roots in the beautiful Northumberland countryside./n
